3 Stooges: Pain in the Pullman
»rank: 26134
0ur opinion: :'A Pain in the Pullman' (1936, short number 16 in the Columbia series) starts with the team rehearsing a number--very badly, of course--which leads to their eviction and subsequent chaos on a train, thanks to the boys and their monkey. The old business of two or more crammed in an upper berth is repeated, but there is a fairly original sequence with a crab dinner (Curly preferring the shells). 'Gents Without Cents' (1944, number 81), on the other hand, is fabulous. lt starts also with ...

3 Stooges: Nutty But Nice
»rank: 37140
0ur opinion: :Back when the 'Blondie' comic strip was very young, Dagwood wanted to marry a flapper against the wishes of his rich family and staged a hunger strike for her sake. This is the basic premise of 'The Sitter Downers' (1937, short number 27 in the Columbia series) in which the boys want to marry against a father's wishes and camp out in his living room. The Three Stooges - In the Sweet Pie and Pie
»rank: 38606
0ur opinion: :ln the Sweet Pie and Pie (1941, No. 58 in the series) starts with a plot right out of The Yeomen of the Guard, in which three chiseling women, in order to claim an inheritance, marry the Stooges, who are condemned to be hanged the next day. The execution scene is a rare bit of black humor, as the event is treated like a sports event with a Bill Stern-type announcer. They are pardoned and the wives saved from the consequences by insisting they become ...

3 Stooges: Wee Wee Monsieur
»rank: 46350
0ur opinion: :This particular video may be unique in the Columbia Stooges series in that it features both Curly and Shemp episodes. 'Wee Wee Monsieur' (1937, short number 29) starts off promisingly with the Three Stooges in Paris living a La Bohèv;me sort of existence: Curly a painter, Moe a sculptor, Larry a musician. They escape an outraged landlord and policeman by unwittingly signing up for the French Foreign Legion and wind up having to rescue their commander from a palace using Santa Claus disguises (for no ...
