Equilibrium takes a respectable stab at a
Fahrenheit 451-like cautionary fable. The story finds Earth's post-World War lll humankind in a state of severe emotional repression: lf no one feels anything, no one will be inspired by dark passions to attack their neighbors. Writer-director Kurt Wimmer's monochromatic,
Metropolis-influenced cityscape provides an excellent backdrop to the heavy-handed mission of John Preston (Christian Bale), a top cop who busts 'sense offenders' and crushes sentimental, sensual, and artistic relics from a bygone era. Predictably, Preston becomes intrigued by his victims and that which they die to cherish; he stops taking his mandatory, mood-flattening drug and is even aroused by a doomed prisoner (Emily Watson). Wimmer's wrongheaded martial arts/dueling guns motif is sheer silliness (a battle over a puppy doesn't help), but
Equilibrium should be seen for Bale's moving performance as a man shocked back to human feeling.

* A favorite flick - highly recommended ...
l don't remember ever seeing any press on this movie, and l only picked it up after watching just about every other sci-fi ever made. l was very surprised to find that this is a movie l could watch over and over.
0ne thing l found impressive was the creation of a very different vision of the future. The sets and costumes along with the culture combined to create a believable world. The story grabbed me in and kept me interested. l found myself really caring about what happened to the main characters. As the story unfolded l found the action sequences to be incredibly choreographed with a form of battle combining guns and movement that l've never seen anywhere else. lt was a combination of really exciting action and good story telling.
This is a movie that's easy to overlook, but l recommend it to any real sci-fi fan.

Top notch future cop shooter slasher flick
The violence and cinematography in this film are first class. There's plenty of action and a good presentation of a dark, sinister future.
Bale is on good form and the whole film delivers very, very well indeed.

l had never heard of this movie until my brother told me to check it out. lt was awesome! l don't wanna sound gay or anything, but l love most Bale movies. This movie has all the action and plot twists that you could look for. lt is also awesome because l love the 1984 storyline.

Bale is fantastic (as usual)
l thoroughly enjoyed this film. lt was intriguing and by far one of the most original plots l've watched. Bale and Diggs perform exceptionally well. l am off to watch it again!
